Comprehensive Preventative Medicine and Vaccines

An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. We can help you choose an appropriate vaccine schedule and preventives based on the specific needs of your pet and your own particular environment. We will review with you the best ways to control fleas, ticks and prevent deadly heartworm disease.

Surgery and Anesthesia

Our fully equipped surgery suite, gas anesthesia machines, and anesthetic monitoring equipment is ready for any need that may arise for your pet. From spaying and neutering to dentals, growth removals or abdominal exploratory surgery, Creature Comforts Animal Hospital is ready!

Exotic Animal Medicine and Surgery

We provide physical examinations, environmental and nutritional consultation, as well as emergency and critical care for your exotic pets. Our facility includes a dedicated avian and exotics ward with temperature controlled cages that allow us to monitor your pet’s condition while minimizing stress. Some of the species we see are birds, gerbils, hamsters, ferrets, guinea pigs, chinchillas, rabbits, hedgehogs, sugar gliders, degus, prairie dogs, frogs/toads, other amphibians, and reptiles such as lizards, snakes, turtles and tortoises, and occasional wildlife. We are happy to see exotics referrals from other veterinary offices.

Dentistry and Oral Surgery

Every time we see your pet, we will examine the teeth to keep you current on your pet’s oral health status. Taking care of your pet’s teeth isn’t just about a pretty smile and better smelling breath! Dental disease can cause more “wear-and-tear” affecting every organ in your pet via the bloodstream. We recommend brushing teeth daily and dental cleanings as needed to prevent the need for tooth extractions or any other oral surgery.

Husbandry Consultation

One of the many reasons that exotic pets get sick is because there is something in their captive environment that isn’t the way they would have it in their natural environment. We can discuss the needed diets/supplements, bedding/substrates, lighting, temperature, humidity, etc for each individual exotic pet to assure they have everything they need to keep them healthy or get them well again.

Geriatric/Pediatric Programs

After adopting a new best friend, it is vital to get a full examination to ensure your new family member’s health. We will discuss ways to avoid problems later in life. Be sure to bring any prior immunization and health information so that we can tailor the care needed. We complete a full exam and go over any previous history for your pet to determine the best vaccination and testing recommendations specific to your pet’s medical and “lifestyle” needs.

Ultrasonography

This diagnostic technique isused to visualize tendons, fetuses, internal organs and other structures to capture their size, shape and any pathological lestions with real time images in a practically three dimensional manner. If there is evidence of heart disease, then an echocardiogram is often indicated. An echocardiogram is an ultrasound of the heart that allows the cardiologist to look inside the heart, find abnormalities and assess severity of disease.

Digital Radiography

Our on-site, modern X-ray equipment provides high quality radiographs to aid in the quick diagnosis of many disorders.

Electrocardiography

An ECG (or EKG) is a noninvasive procedure for recording electrical changes in the heart. It is a starting point for detecting many cardiac problems including heart disease, arrhythmias (irregular heartbeat), tachycardia (fast heartbeat), bradycardia (slow heartbeat), myocardial infarction (heart attack), and certain congenital heart conditions.

Nutrition Counseling

We offer counseling in dietary selection and feeding practices for all animals during various life stages such as growth, gestation and old age. This includes special considerations for each exotic animal species. We also offer consultation in dietary selection and feeding practices for pets with specific disease conditions in which nutritional intervention plays a role in disease management.

Behavior Counseling

Changes in behavior/mentation, aggression, fear biting, separation anxiety, feather picking, overgrooming, hiding, self-mutilation or inappropriate elimination are only some aspects of behavioral changes that you can encounter with a pet. We will strive to help you figure out why these reactions occur, if there is any underlying disease process involved and what we need to do to try and fix or maintain a good quality of life for your pet and your family.

In Hospital and Reference Laboratory Diagnostics

We have extensive in-house equipment available for urgent testing, including state-of-the-art CBC analyzer, blood chemistry, blood pressure monitor, as well as serology, urinalysis and parasite testing. Less urgent or more specialized testing is available through a local laboratory with quick turn-around times on most tests.

Hospitalization and Emergency Care

Illnesses and injuries will occur from time to time. We are fully prepared to examine and treat those unexpected problems. We are also closely associated with local emergency facilities in times when round-the-clock care and supervision is needed or when we are unavailable.

Pain Management

Animals instinctually hide pain so we generally don’t hear a peep out of our pets until the pain is so bad they cannot hide it anymore. We feel that it is very important to identify when an animal is painful. Minimizing an animal’s discomfort will improve the recovery process, whether from illness, surgery or injury. Best of all, because it reduces stress and increases a sense of well being, and may even help your pet live longer and more comfortably.

Microchipping

We offer permanent microchip identification of your beloved pet. The procedure is quick and practically painless. A small microchip is permanently implanted under the skin of the neck area. This way, if your pet becomes lost, he or she is able to be identified even if they have lost their collar and ID tags!

Pharmacy

We maintain a complete well stocked inventory of pharmaceuticals, vitamins, shampoos, flea and tick control products and heartworm preventatives to meet the needs of your pet. We also carry a full line of prescription diets.

Telemedicine and Referrals

Every patient is different and some cases are more difficult to diagnose than others. We are closely associated to board-certified specialists via telemedicine as well as to numerous specialists in our area when a second opinion or consultation may be necessary in order to get to the root of your pet’s problem.
